Holistic Bodywork

Holistic Bodywork

“Every week, I look forward to my sessions with Douglas. For once, I finally feel that I have found the perfect form of therapy for myself. Coming from a family and background that understands energies and bodywork, I have often missed such practices when receiving traditional therapy. Vice versa, the lack of talking has also been missed when receiving solely bodywork. Douglas’s sessions meld the two together in perfect harmony.” Marnie, Edinburgh

A solely counselling/talk therapy approach is not for everyone and may be more relevant at some times and in certain situations in our lives. Here, the invitation is to use some, or sometimes all of the time, talking and opening up in confidence – sharing and letting go of things which have been bothering you, either currently or historically. I will then help you in noticing if the talking and sharing has led to some awareness of physical, emotional or energetic tension, holding or imbalance which might then be addressed by moving onto some holistic bodywork (massage, reflexology, energywork or coaching). In this respect, these sessions are free-flowing and unstructured.

These sessions can also safely address issues or concerns around touch. As examples:
● you may feel that a massage would be helpful, but have concerns around touch/your body.
● you may have no nourishing touch in your life and don’t know where to begin.
● your experience with touch is not positive.
● you don’t know how to receive, for yourself.

We can start from the very beginning in a safe and consensual way, at your pace.

By their nature, these are not counselling sessions as such, however, can be an extension of a 50 min. counselling session.

Below are the main therapies I work with. If you are unfamiliar with them, or the way I work with them, I’ve provided details and some FAQs to help.

I am also qualified in clinical hypnotherapy and emotional freedom techniques (EFT), and may suggest using aspects of these, where appropriate.  If you know which therapy works best for you, and that’s what you want to work with (e.g. you want to work with massage), then that’s what we’ll do.

Initially, it is not my job to intervene in your choice of therapy unless you ask for my advice or I consider that there may be contra-indications involved in your choice in relation to your current health, or that another therapist with more relevant experience or training might be best for you.
